7 Free Master’s in Biochemistry in Germany

Biochemistry is the bridge between biology and chemistry; it is fundamental to all biological processes and is practised in a wide range of biological fields.

Currently, almost all the states in Germany do not charge tuition fees even to non-EU students. International students can therefore take advantage of this opportunity to earn a free master's degree in Biochemistry, in English, from one of its tuition-free universities. International students get to study for free, learn a new language and also have the opportunity to travel around Europe during the semester breaks.

7) University of Göttingen---MSc in Biochemistry and Microbiology

The Master's programme "Microbiology and Biochemistry" is held in English and offers project-based training in microbiology, biochemistry, and molecular plant sciences. The curriculum comprises lectures with initial practical courses and consecutive individual research projects applying high-end technology. A variety of bacterial, fungal and plant model organisms are used.

6) Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena---Master of Science Biochemistry

Building on their existing knowledge of biochemistry and molecular biology, students in the MSc Biochemistry programme will learn to apply methodical approaches to the analysis of biomolecules and cellular functions on molecular levels. Focus will be placed on concepts and methods from the fields of bioinformatics, biophysics, chemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology.

5) Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg---Master in Biochemistry

The two-year Master's programme in Biochemistry offers a research-oriented education in one of Germany's prime universities for biomedical research. Selected top students will be offered a "fast-track" option to start a PhD thesis after three semesters of MSc studies.

4) University of Bremen---MSc in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

Two profile curricula available in either biochemistry and molecular biology, or in microbial systems.
Contents: Fundamentals of biochemistry and molecular cell biology or microbiology and biotechnology; advanced studies in the areas of biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, microbiology, biotechnology, biophysics; project studies in lab rotations, project proposal and Master's thesis.

3) Ruhr University Bochum---Master of Science in Biochemistry

A research-oriented two-year Master's course in biochemistry is offered with the possibility to specialise in one of six focal point programmes: Biochemistry of the Nervous System, Biomolecular Chemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of Plants and Microorganisms, Molecular Medicine, Proteins - Structure and Function, and Molecular Biochemistry of Stem Cells.

2) University of Bonn---Biochemistry, Master of Science

The Master in Biochemistry focusses on a profound education in the areas of cellular biochemistry, chemical biology, biophysics and physiology.
The programme is research-oriented and is taught completely in English. Apart from an in-depth education of scientific knowledge in the mentioned areas, it is characterised by a high proportion of individual research projects in which students are integrated into the highly competitive and interdisciplinary research groups of the LIMES institute at an early stage.
