9 Free Master’s in Environmental Science in Europe

The natural world is complex and human activity can have unexpected consequences that are hard to reverse. The study of how physical and biological processes maintain life, and how humans affect nature, requires a broad interdisciplinary perspective. Environmental problems and their associated solutions typically involve social, political and economic aspects which the scientist must be aware of. This is why the dedicated study of environmental science is so important. It is only by understanding how the world works that we can begin to tackle some of our pressing problems.

Tuition-free European countries like Germany and Norway offer international students the opportunity to earn a master's degree in Environmental Science, in English, irrespective of their country of origin, for free. International students can study for free and also get the opportunity to travel around Europe, learn a new language, and make some lifelong friends. It's amazing that this free education is extended even to non-EU students.

9) Norwegian University of Life Sciences---MSc in Environment and Natural Resources

The main objective of the programme is to provide the students with competence and skills raised by challenges related to inadequate water and sanitation with special focus on developing countries. It also aims at providing the students with an overview of potential technical solutions and knowledge of the advantages and limitations of different water and sanitary systems (large and small scale), as well as socioeconomic factors of relevance for successful implementation in different parts of the world.

8) University College of Southeast Norway---Master's in Environmental Science

Environmental science is an interdisciplinary academic field that integrates physical and biological sciences, (including but not limited to Ecology, Chemistry, Biology, Soil Science, Water, Geology and Atmospheric Science) to the study of the environment, and the solution of environmental problems. Environmental science provides an integrated, quantitative, and interdisciplinary approach to the study of environmental systems.

7) University of Cologne---Master of Science in Environmental Sciences

Humans interact with their environment in a very intricate manner. Human activities dominate most ecosystems and strongly alter the biological, chemical, physical and geological, hydrological characteristics of their environment. At the same time, humans are affected by their environment which provides essential goods and services.

6) Freie Universität Berlin---Master's in Environmental Earth Sciences

The Master's programme enables students to deepen and extend their knowledge, abilities, and skills by studying a broad range of subjects in the core curriculum and elective modules. Students learn to analyse and evaluate process and system interrelations in the Earth and Environmental Sciences. They will acquire geoscientific regional competence and cultural knowledge during their study abroad in China.
